Students, faculty, and staff wore JA jerseys today and participated in a pep rally as Jackson Academy recognized Jan Sojourner during her final season. Coach Sojourner will complete a stellar career, culminating in 40 years at JA and 45 years of coaching. She will finish her career as the girls basketball coach with the third-highest number of wins in Mississippi history.
Girls and boys varsity basketball teams opened the pep rally with a demonstration of their game warm-ups. Little Dribblers, JA’s second-grade ball-handling group, made a special appearance, delighting the student body. JA’s spirit teams and band led the audience in the day’s celebration and in preparation for the conference games tonight, which begin at 4 p.m. with the JV girls game.
JA will formally honor Coach Sojourner in the Raider Dome after the varsity girls game. The game start time is 6:30 p.m. JA will hold a reception upstairs in the gymnasium Mirror Room after the presentation. Former players, family, friends, and guests are invited to join in the celebration.
